“If I moved to Los Angeles, the first thing I would do is sign up for Jordu Schell’s sculpture class. I’m not kidding. Jordu has an extraordinary talent for creating fantastic faces which have an intrinsic logic and superb modeling that makes them believable. In my opinion, to be great, a make-up, creature, or transformation must make the viewer believe that it could have a life of its own. Jordu is the master of the bizarre made believable.”
-Dick Smith (Exorcist, Little Big Man, Taxi Driver, Amadeus) |

“After a lifetime of enthusiasm and a great deal of involvement in makeup and related effects myself, I must say I’ve very seldom encountered a person of such comprehensive skill, ability to communicate, intelligence, humor, and individuality as Jordu schell. His grasp of his art and his craft is firm, and his understanding and appreciation of the history of fine and applied art is phenomenal. His special love for and pursuit of the fantastic, the grotesque, the outre, are no secret, and his expression in this area is seemingly inexhaustible, and he always discovers the beauty in the strange and even the disturbing and scary. Consider this an endorsement of his school of sculpture. If there is a better one in the world, GO there! Otherwise, call up Schell Studios.”
-Craig Reardon (Poltergeist, American Werewolf in London, E.T.) |

“If you want to learn from one of the best creature designers I know and one of the very best creature maquette makers of all time…check out Jordu Schell and his school.”
-Carlos Huante (Men in Black, Hellboy, Eragon) |
Our classes offer students a first-hand look at how creatures are created for the film, television, and gaming industries, as well as a thorough hands-on experience designing their own masks, maquettes and illustrations. Ours is the only school specializing in these aspects of conceptualization. Classes are held in a working studio environment–check here often for times and availability.
Jordu has taught around the world, and at some of the most prestigious companies in the industry, including Industrial Light and Magic, Tippett Studio, Blizzard Entertainment, Blur Studio, Millennium Effects, Dreamworks and many more.
